Canadian Politics

Every 4 years(ish), we get the chance to elect a new government or let the previous government stay in power. We do this by electing a representative of a particular political party (a Member of Parliament) from the area we live in to be our voice and further our interests and desires in the House of Commons. The MP is usually from either the Conservative Party, the Liberal Party, the New Democrats Party, the Green Party or the Bloc Quebecois. There are a lot more parties, but those are the main ones.

If you have the time, I’d suggest going to each party’s official website and reading their platform, or political stance, and plan for what they would push for, should they be elected.

If you don’t know where to start and that seems a little overwhelming, here’s a great quiz you can take that gives you an idea of where your views lie and what parties most closely align with them. Check out Vote Compass
